GREAT AMERICAN CLEAN-UP

The Santa Rosa Clean Community System has announced the schedule for this year's Great American Clean-Up, which will run from April through June. The Clean-Up is part of a nation wide effort by Keep America Beautiful, which the system is an affiliate, to clean-up, green-up and beautify areas throughout the country. In Santa Rosa there will be a combination of all three.

Clean-Ups are scheduled for:

Saturday, April 6 in Navarre (meet at the Navarre Park from 8 am through 12 noon)

Sunday, May 5 (meet at the Navarre Beach Pier from 3 pm through 5 pm

Milton and Pace will have clean-ups on Saturday, April 20 and Saturday, April 27 (groups and individuals should register with Clean Community)

Floridale and Munson will have clean-ups on Saturday, April 20, with meeting times and places to be announced.

In addition, the 200 plus Adopt-A-Spot participants will clean their areas during this period.

RIVERS CLEAN-UP

Also starting in May, and running through June and July, will be the Annual Rivers Clean-Up.

The Clean-Up asks organized groups to schedule a time with local canoe liveries during the week to clean part of our rivers or creeks.

Weekends, families and other groups are asked to make a concentrated effort to pick up any trash they find while out enjoying one of our most precious natural resources.

The program emphasizes the Leave No Trace outdoor ethic of leaving an area you visit as good or better than when you came.

PAINT YOUR HEART OUT

There are currently two Paint your Heart Out projects scheduled during Apri and Mayl.

Preparation work will begin on Saturday, April 6 and work will continue on subsequent Saturdays. The group is still considering adding several more houses.

Interested groups and individuals should call to register to help.

MAKE OVER - MAYO PARK

Another large project during months will be a make over of Mayo Park, which is on the Coldwater Creek on Highway 90.

Volunteer commitments have already been made by US Navy personnel at Whiting Field, as well as several youth groups. More volunteers are always welcome.

For more information on any of these projects, call the Clean Community System office at 623-1930.

You Can Support the "Recycling Innovation Station"

The site of the old Milton Firehouse in Milton, Florida will soon be transformed into a "recycling innovation station" and businesses, corporations and individuals are now being asked to help "Climb the Ladder" to the top with donations which will be used to purchase recycled plastic picnic tables, park benches and garbage receptacles for the new Fireman's Recycling Station. The Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Inc. has begun soliciting donations.

The community's support is needed to help make this happen. One end of the property will house recycling containers and at the other end the area will include recycled plastic tables, benches and garbage cans for use by the general public. Kiosks will provide information about recycling. Plans also include a garden area made from recycled glass.

The location of the new recycling center is adjacent to the busy intersection of Stewart Street and Berryhill Road. This can only strengthen the public's awareness of recycling and thus, enhance the strength of the recycling program in Santa Rosa County. This entire recycling station project is a partnership with the City of Milton and Santa Rosa County.

Sponsorships are available at the Platinum Ladder Level - $1000 or more; Gold Ladder Level - $500-$999; Silver Ladder Level - $250-$499; or Bronze Ladder Level - $50-$249. All donations are tax-deductible.
